Black Crown Australia is delighted to officially announce Irene Sanchez as our first female player in Australia. Irene is a passionate padel player who will help to grow padel in Australia and therefore will be a tremendous asset for Black Crown.
THE EARLY YEARS
Irene was born in Barcelona (Spain) and at the age of 4 she started playing tennis at Club Tennis Andrés Gimeno, one of the most well-known tennis clubs in Barcelona area. During her tennis career she won several state and national competitions that brought her to be ranked number 1 in Catalonia at the age of 11.
MOVING TO AUSTRALIA
Irene moved to Sydney 5 years ago after completing her degree in Marketing and Communications, majoring in Sports Marketing. At that time, she was coaching tennis for a living until she found a job as a Technical Publishing Coordinator at Standards Australia.
PADEL
Irene tried padel for the first time at the age of 22 (2015) in her tennis club in Barcelona where they had a few padel courts. It was love at first sight. She immediately quit tennis and started training and playing padel competitions.
“I love padel. Not just the sport itself but the atmosphere. It is a very social game and thanks to it I have met awesome people and have made lots of friends through it. For me padel has been the key to happiness. For people like myself who moved to Australia on their own, padel has given us an opportunity to create our own little family”.
Irene’s goals are to become the number one in Australia (she is currently ranked number 2) and to win as many tournaments as possible on the Australian Padel Tour. In the long run, she would like to participate in the Olympic Games representing Australia. Who knows if this will happen in Brisbane 2032!
As the great padel ambassador she is, Irene has been involved in the spread of our sport in Australia. Her main focus of interest is children. She set up the Junior Padel Academy at Padel Indoor Australia (Sydney) and she is currently helping the Australia National Team under 18, under 16 and under 14.
